High-Temperature Applications Made Safer with Graphite Crucibles: Tips for Proper Usage and Installation

Graphite crucibles are renowned for their exceptional heat conductivity and high-temperature resistance. Their low coefficient of thermal expansion grants them resilience against rapid heating and cooling, making them suitable for demanding applications. Moreover, their robust resistance to corrosive acids and alkaline solutions, coupled with excellent chemical stability, sets them apart in various industries.

However, utilizing graphite crucibles demands meticulous attention to specific guidelines to ensure their longevity and optimal performance. Here are some key points to consider:

Pre-Use Precautions:

Material Inspection and Preparation: Thoroughly inspect the materials to be placed in the crucible for any explosive elements. When adding materials, ensure they are preheated and adequately dried. When introducing graphite crucibles into the process, the insertion rate should be gradual.

Handling and Transport: Use specialized tools for transporting the crucibles, avoiding direct rolling on the ground. Handle them with care during transportation to prevent damage to the glazing, which could compromise the crucible's lifespan.

Environment: Keep the surroundings of the furnace dry and avoid water accumulation. Do not stack unrelated items near the graphite crucibles to prevent any unwanted interactions.

Crucible Installation and Fixation:

For Gas or Oil Furnaces: Place the crucible on the base, leaving some expansion space between the crucible's top and the furnace wall. Use materials like wooden blocks or hard cardboard to secure it in place. Adjust the burner and nozzle positions to ensure the flame targets the combustion chamber, not directly onto the crucible's bottom.

For Rotary Furnaces: Employ support bricks on both sides of the crucible's pouring spout to secure it, without over-tightening. Insert materials like cardboard, about 3-4mm thick, between the support bricks and the crucible to allow for pre-expansion.

For Electric Furnaces: Position the crucible in the central part of the resistance furnace, with its base slightly above the lower row of heating elements. Seal the gap between the crucible's top and the furnace edge with insulating material.

For Induction Furnaces: Ensure the crucible is centered within the induction coil to prevent localized overheating and cracking.

Adhering to these guidelines ensures safe and efficient use of graphite crucibles, enhancing the crucibles' longevity and overall effectiveness in high-temperature applications.
